Beginner Djembe Hand-drumming Weekly Series February 22, 2010

Weekly classes with Barbara Gail, of The Rhythm Inlet. Series of 8 Mondays: February 22 thru April 12. Welcome all adults, motivated teens, (youth ages 9 and up with instructor permission). No previous or musical experience needed. Intro workshop on February 15 is strongly suggested, but not required. (It at least allows you to try it out before committing to the series.) Learn to play the most popular hand-drum, seen at your friend's house, the drum circle, and on stage. The language of the drum, proper hand technique, rhythm patterns, how to find your place in the beat, & playing as a polyrhythmic ensemble, will be our focus. We will learn 2 djembe ensemble pieces in this course. Whether you're a raw beginner, or have some exposure to the drum, this class is perfect for you. Students will have the option of playing as a group, under Barbara's direction, in the special Earth Day Service at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Sarasota, on Sunday, April 18!
