Sam Parker represents an amalgamation of styles. Born in Minneapolis, Sam was a part of the first wave of graffiti in the city, eventually becoming a member of the nationally known crew AKB. When a large number of the crew moved to Atlanta, Sam followed suit and continued to advance with his graffiti as well as his new profession in tattoos. Taking elements from each: the words and flow of graffiti, the shading and imagery of tattoos, and the creativity and detail of Max Ernst and others; Sam’s work has blossomed into a synthesis of his three major influences. Sam has exhibited at Dactyl and Mccaig Welles in New York, Intermedia Arts in Minneapolis, and most recently a solo exhibition at Youngblood Gallery in Atlanta

Some words from the artist:
Neoteny: Retention of juvenile characteristics in adult specimens of a species.
“I began this work as a child. I’ve carried these old bones with me for years resurrecting their image again and again. I played alone as a child with paints and pencils, drawing. I did it again yesterday, and everyday I can remember since childhood. Drawing has been my most effective means of communication. This habit has stretched itself over my life connecting one day to the next. As a child it was my mode of play" ~ Sam Parker
