Pacific Coast Repertory Theatre (PCRT) www.pcrtproductions.org will open its 2012-2013 season on Friday, November 2, 2012 at 8:00 p.m. with the Disney version of the classic tale, Beauty and the Beast.
PCRT is the first East Bay theatre company to obtain rights to the production in more than a year. "Although we will follow the amazing Disney script and score 'to a T' as required by copyright laws, we'll sprinkle our own magic on the set, the costumes, and lighting," says Co-Artistic Director David Judson. "For example, NY Times-acclaimed lighting designer Mike Oesch will surprise audiences with some environmental and atmospheric lighting special effects. We'll use innovative digital projections to complement his colorful design and, of course, audiences will see the Beast's Castle."
According to Judson, actors from across the country auditioned for Beauty and the Beast. Professionals in the cast include Joy Sherratt (Belle), Adam Theodore Barry (Gaston), Derek Travis Collard (Lumiere), Adrienne Walters (Featured Dancer), and Kenneth Baggott (Maurice). The group of professionals is supported by regional actors, including the South Bay's Joshua K. Milbourne as Beast.
Pleasanton resident Joy Sherratt (Belle) graduated from UC Irvine in Drama and first pursued her professional career as the leading vocalist aboard the Holland America Cruise Line before settling in New York City. She earned her Equity card with the role of Sandy in Grease. Back in the San Francisco Bay Area, Sherratt has performed with several theatre companies, including Playhouse West, C.V. Performing Arts and Woodminster.
Lauren Bratton-Kearns (Silly Girl) grew up in Pleasanton and attended Contra Costa Ballet Centre for eight years. Also a graduate of UC Irvine, she studied at Alvin Ailey in New York City for two years and then performed with several New York City dance companies.
The show runs for three weekends, with evening and matinee performances.
