One of the foremost landscape architects of the early 1900s was Beatrix Farrand, whose talent and patrician birth (she was the niece of Edith Wharton) gave her an entrée into a professional world barred to most women of that time.
A charter fellow of the American Society of Landscape Artists, Farrand's signature style included broad green lawns bordered with softly shaded foliage and flowers. Landscape Historian Judith B. Tankard examines Farrand's life and work in this volume, beautifully illustrated with watercolor renderings of Farrand's designs, archival photos, design plans, and photographs of Farrand's gardens at their peak.
