ELECTRO-CABARET @ THE BEAP CLOSING PARTY
The Bakery ARTRAGE Complex, Northbridge
Saturday, 22 September, 8pm till late
BEAP, ARTRAGE and Sensei Sound brings you Electro-Cabaret at the Biennale of Electronic Arts Perth [BEAP] Club CLOSING PARTY a night of digital decadence curated by Perths only granddaughters of Italo-disco BRASH AND SASSY! Featuring the cream of Perths electro talent, the night will be a cabaret-spectacle full of weirdly wonderful sounds and images, plus a few mannequin limbs and shoulder pads to take you to a new frontier. Special guest performances from:
BRASH AND SASSY Brash and Sassy gals, Ava the genius Loverock (producer, superb vocalist and songwriter) and Gennaia Febbraio (songwriter, producer and singer with panache) lead this Italo disco/electro, new wave femme fatale musical unit, wholl be putting on a special not-to-be-missed performance with newest Brash and Sassy member Miriam. Brash and Sassy have been commended for their music on MySpace by the common public and music industry specialists, and at their superbly charming and uncomfortably elaborate shows.
EXTENDED SUMMER SURGERY Arising from the ashes of such seminal occasions as birth, adolescence and puberty, Extended Summer Surgery lay waste to conventional ideas like gender roles, genre specifics, professional identity and sexual reconstructive surgery, instead focusing on their unique star-crossed musical pageantry. Kneeling before the dirty, blistered feet of pop ghosts, disfigured heavy metal saints, vocoder hate and squealing chromatic horror, their strange blend of synthesizers, guitars and pounding drum machines could quite possibly sever your already-tenuous grip on reality.
BIRDS OF PARADISE Birds of Paradise consist of dynamic duo Kira Goodey (piano, vocals) and Stephanie Ryall (drums). Formed in the scorching summer of 06, the pairs musical style is best described as "Misc", encompassing a broad range of influences from blues to punk to opera to rockabilly to cabaret. Do not be fooled by their stilettoed, false eye-lashed, well-corseted exteriors for within them lies the essence, neigh the SPIRIT, of filthy filthy rock.
MIA SONOS AND MANDY Hovering somewhere in the realm between waking and sleeping are the songs of Electric Limosine starlet Mia Sonos. Taking influences from all ends of the musical spectrum, Mia combines elements of trip hop, electro, industrial and chanson together with the tragic lilt of wartime cabaret to create her own brand of 'electronic torch song'. Mia performs for you at the whim of her pretty puppet-master/visual artist Mandy to create an audio-visual performance that will transport you into a surreal and magical world.
FUTURE FROG To close off the night in true electro-party fashion, Bourgeois Bogan and Electric Limosines Future Frog will showcase his banging electro mash-ups in his new silver jumpsuit. Its not to be missed.
Plus DJs and visuals by Sydney film director Ben Lucas.
