Start your spring with a swing! (of the mallet) Iron your whites, grab your favorite mallet (or use one of ours) and get out on the 'sward. Work on your cannon, drive, peel, rush, split, jump and pegging out shots (um, we’re not entirely sure what all that means…) What we do know is we’re calling all BCO-ers and guests – to join us for a good old fashioned afternoon game of croquet on the croquet pitch (‘sward) at Memorial Park.
Equipment, light bites, sodas and water will be provided so you can enjoy the proverbial “Queen of Games” with members and guests. Feel free to BYOB for yourself or to share.
Fun Fact: People originally condemned croquet because it was one of the first sports to allow men and women to compete together on an equal playing field. The sport was banned in Boston in 1890 for fear that young couples might disappear into the bushes to look for a missing croquet ball. Don’t worry, the courts at Memorial park have a well-groomed fence, so you should be safe.
$5 for members; $10 non-members.
