This year marks the 50th anniversary of an extraordinary act of philanthropy – Miss Ima Hogg’s gift of Bayou Bend to the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. Situated within a gentle bend in Buffalo Bayou as it passes through River Oaks, Bayou Bend Collection and Gardens is an oasis of beauty, nature and culture in the heart of Houston. Fourteen acres of formal gardens and woodlands surround the 1920s-era mansion, designed by renowned Houston architect John Staub. The house contains one of the premier collections of early American decorative arts and paintings, a collection begun by Miss Hogg in 1920, which contains pieces dating from 1620 to 1876. Discover why Bayou Bend truly is “Houston’s Home for America’s Treasures.”
