BAREFOOT IN THE PARK
Adelaide Repertory Theatre
The Arts Theatre
Comedy
Written By: Neil Simon
Director: Kerrin White
Neil Simon's second play tells the story of conservative young, buttoned down lawyer ‘Paul Bratter’ (James Antonis), and his free-spirited newlywed bride ‘Corrie’ (Allison Scharber), as they transport from the joy of a honeymoon at The Plaza, into the crazy reality of starting married life in a fifth floor walk-up, in New York City.
We soon find that Paul’s desire for professional success and Corrie’s go-anywhere girl attitude clash, and the disagreements that begin as minor irritations soon threaten to destroy the marriage. Coupled with intrusions from a prim and proper, yet relentless mother, ‘Ethel Banks’ (Rhonda Grill) and the flamboyant bohemian ‘Victor Velasco’ (Brian Knott) anything is possible.
Under skilful direction from Kerrin White, ‘Paul’ and ‘Corie’ show us how disparate couples can learn to live with each other. – Even when surrounded by the strangest neighbours in New York City.
