...and as if by magic, with a little help from perseverance and a luck I have moved from Watching to Attending. :-)

Can I suggest only flagging yourself as attending if you have tickets to attend. If you would like to attend but don't yet have tickets then just list yourself as watching. This was we can see who is actually going to be able to make it and not just who wants to.
