Bang a Gong! UR hosts free Balinese Dance and Music Workshops September 17, 2011

THE UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND HOSTS A FREE, OPEN WORKSHOP IN TRADITIONAL
BALINESE (INDONESIAN) MUSIC AND DANCE.

*Members of Gamelan Raga Kusuma, a community-based ensemble in residence
at the University of Richmond, introduce attendees to the techniques of the traditional
gamelan orchestra; an enormous set of bronze gongs, chimes, xylophones and drums
housed in intricately carved wooden cases.

*Balinese dancer Rembulan Maniasa, of the Indonesian Embassy, will direct a concurrent
workshop introducing the basic techniques of traditional Balinese temple dance.
