Learn the basics of traditional B&W darkroom printing in a concise 3-hour session. If you have a pile of processed negatives and want to control the look and feel of the printed images, this is your starting point. This tutorial is suitable for students with no prior printing experience as well as students looking for a quick refresher.
Students learn how to make contact sheets of their negatives as well as 8"x10" enlargements. Emphasis will be placed on controlling density (exposure) and contrast. Participants will become familiar with using an enlarger and darkroom chemistry and will develop their eye for tone. We will also cover archival washing and storage techniques as well as options for papers. Students will leave with printed contact sheets and 1-3 enlargements.
