Balthazar Korab, the prolific and celebrated photographer, produced some of the most iconic images of midcentury modernism leaving an indelible impact on the collective visual culture of the twentieth century. His iconic photographs for master architects immortalized their finest works while leaving his own distinct impact on the era's newly built landscape, revealing the vision and hopes of an entire age.
Author John Comazzi will discuss the life and colorful career of Balthazar Korab, by presenting a collection of images from Korab's portfolio of professionally commissioned architectural photographs offering a close and personal examination of Saarinen's TWA Terminal at John F. Kennedy Airport in New York and the Miller House in Columbus, Indiana, Mies van der Rohe's S. R. Crown Hall, Le Corbusier's Carpenter Center for the Visual Arts at Harvard University, Louis Kahn's Kimball Art Museum and Salk Institute among many others.
SPEAKER: JOHN COMAZZI has been a personal acquaintance of Korab since 1997. He has lectured on the photographer in both public and academic venues, and together they have curated several traveling exhibitions. Comazzi is an associate professor of architecture at the University of Minnesota.
