Balloons and Aerial Reconnaissance During the American Civil War October 16, 2010

Virginia Aviation Museum Executive Director, Mike Boehme, and Museum of the Confederacy Visitor Services Supervisor and aviation historian, Bryce VanStavern, will discuss the development of aerial reconnaissance with the use of balloons during the Civil War. The discussion will cover the first balloon flights, early attempts at military ballooning, plans for a transatlantic crossing, the Civil War and post Civil War balloon development. Reservations are required for this program and seating will be limited.
