Fresh off an amazing summer tour through Bonnaroo, Central Park SummerStage, and Israel (where residents of the North were admitted free), Israeli sextet Balkan Beat Box mixes hard edged folk with electronica and hip hop. Come ready for the "dance party of the new millenium." (Paste)
Eastern European folk-punk auteurs Golem have racked up some early raves for their electrifying sophomore LP Fresh Off Boat (JDub/ August 22), a motley, multi-lingual brew of Jewish, Slavic, and Gypsy folk music played with the wild abandon of a New York punk band. Having braved the tempest-tossed East River for an album release show/concert cruise in NYC on August 10, the band is now gearing up for a 12-date US tour beginning with a ‘Slivovitz and Soul ‘ concert August 27 in Cleveland.
“Gypsy punk folk, complete with klezmer jams, Yiddish singing, and jokes... with Phish’s Mike Gordon on bass and Lenny Kaye on guitar, ‘Boat’ is full of contagious energy and virtuoso playing”
-Kate Landau, Rolling Stone, 8/24/06
“The group’s sultry bounce practically insists that you dance along”
-Time Out NY, 8/10/06
