MARC BLACK

Marc is one of a very few artists whose music has found a home both folk and pop radio as well as avant guarde shows like Jonn Schaeffer's New Sounds on WNYC. He carries on the Woodstock tradition of dealing with social and spiritual challenges...one song at a time.

He was a finalist in this year's Kerrville Folk Festival 'New Folk' competition. He also recently won 'Artist of the Year' honors from ABC Radio's Fame Games, the New Jersey Folk Festival and the Austin Songwriters' competition.

'Folk Artist of the Year' on ABC Radio's Fame Games, Finalist @ this year's Kerrville Folk Festival, Marc Black is an eclectic folk-rocker who sings about Rachel Maddow, good coffee and everything in between.

His Youtube videos have been viewed as many as 35,000 times. He was a featured performer at the Sundance Film Festival (with Donovan), Levon Helm invited him to perform at one the 'Rambles' in Woodstock; and Marc's song, "Lies in Red, White & Blue" has been as high as #33 on Neil Young's Living with War' site.

Marc has received the Mobius and the London International Advertising Awards for Best Original Music and has also been noted for songwriting, production and performance by Rolling Stone Magazine, the American Library Association, and Billboard Magazine.

He has recorded with an array of luminaries including Taj Mahal, Jack DeJonnette, Rick Danko, PDQ Bach, and Garth Hudson (keyboardist for the 'Band'); collaborated with Richie Havens on the title cut of the award-winning, American children CD, and the song he wrote for the NY Mets this year was featured on the Diamond Vision screen at the new Stadium.

His most recent full CD, Stroke of Genius features a supporting cast that includes Warren Bernhardt, Steve Gadd, Art Garfunkel, John Sebastian, and the Dixie Hummingbirds. The lyrics on this new album are based on the inspired poetry of a man who was in a coma for 21 days and miraculously woke up after his doctors had pulled life support.

As Paul Winter put it, "His songs are great and his singing is superb."

Marc Black poet whose perspective ranges from anger with the corporate world in "Out Windows" ("Raped by Marc Black--poet whose perspective ranges from anger with the corporate world in "Out Windows" ("Raped by desire controlled by cash") to loving. "Dawn On You" ("I want to take you dancing") and "Wheel Inna Wheel is a reflection of his son's bar mitzvah (This path of love stretches 5,000 miles to you"). His optimism shines through "The Wedding Song" (we are born, in a world worn, yet so full of dreams"). And the tales can be as simple as the band setting up to play or as complicated as who claims the streets.

Black is also a hipster storyteller, and the tales can be as simpler as the band setting up to play or as complicated as who claims the streets. Marc Black and The Funky SG's is a joyous band, with Black's guitar and voice subtly augmented by Michael Esposito on bass and Betty MacDonald on violin. And it's as if Marc's been searching for Eric Parker, drummer extraordinaire, his whole life… Gives Marc the impetus to keep the world rocking.

Marc has been recognized with the Mobius and by a London International Advertising Award for Best Original Music in Advertising. And he's also won kudos for his CD productions from Billboard Magazine, Dirty Linen, John Hammond (the great A&R force at Columbia Records) and the American Library Association (for a children's album).

His scoring compositions feature live players, often in improvisational settings where the musicians are encouraged to explore the intersection between their life and the film. This organic approach has grown music that breathes freely in some very unusual atmospheres...and can bring many different worlds to life! http://marcblack.com/
