Childrens author/illustrator Yuyi Morales will discuss her award-winning booksJust a Minute: a Trickster Tale and Counting Book (2004) and Los Gatos Black on Halloween (2008)in the context of the popular Latino tradition, Da de los Muertos (Day of the Dead). The program relates to the goal of the annual Pura Belpr Illustrator Award and Author Awards, which honor Latino authors and illustrators whose work best portrays, affirms and celebrates the Latino cultural experience in children's books. Attendees will gain fresh understanding of cultural traditions. This program is co-sponsored by the Castellano Family Foundation Latino Author series and Bibliotecas Para La Gente.
The Pura Belpr awards are administered by the Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC), a division of ALA, and REFORMA, the National Association to Promote Library and Information Services to Latinos and the Spanish-Speaking.
