"Awakening to the Grand Illusion" is a multilevel performance arts production by Texas performance artist Daniel Llanes, accompanied by his musical group, For the Love Of It, which includes singers Saffron Parten, Carmen Llanes, Manuel Miller, percussionist Melanie Rose Maxwell and guest artist from Central Mexico, guitarist Alejandro Pimentel.
"Awakening" is a humorous and profound commentary on this "great play of life" and the current illusion of power, abundance and what our part is in the current global / local culture and our relationship to nature and each other.
Illustrated in poetry, music, theater, dance, light and sound, and with a good dose of humor and beauty, Mr. Llanes deals with the themes such as:
"The Great Misunderstanding" - 10th through 18th century European expansion into the rest of the world and its effects and manifestation in today's culture. "This must be India, I shall call them Indians!"
"Homelessness in the Midst of Abundance" - a diatribe of the homeless vet
"Love Your Children" - How we treat our Children determines what kind of person they become, assets or liability to society.
"Carbon Footprints" - There's a Big Plastic Island out there in the Sea, made up of all the big and little things so casually tossed out by you and me......What is our individual and collective contribution to the Natural World and will we survive it?
"The Eternal Optimist" - What did the diabetic say after his 2nd foot was amputated? "It was bad enough that I was short!"
This too shall pass......
