AVERY DENNISON FOUNDATION LAUNCHES “SPIRIT OF INVENTION” SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM IN INDIA
Ten outstanding engineering students from three leading Indian colleges recognized at inaugural award ceremony
Bangalore, India, — The Avery Dennison Foundation today launched its ”InVent: Spirit of Invention” program in India with a ceremony in which ten outstanding college students were awarded scholarships intended to foster the spirit of innovation and entrepreneurship among India’s engineering, science and technology students.
The Spirit of Invention scholarship program is open to all first-year Indian national students who demonstrate outstanding academic performance with a strong interest in innovation. The merit-based grants provide US$1,200 to each student during their second year of study. This year, three of India’s most prestigious institutes of higher learning– the Birla Institute of Technology & Science, Pilani, M. S. Ramaiah Institute of Technology, Bangalore and the PVG College of Engineering and Technology, Pune – were invited to participate.
“We are extremely pleased to bring the Avery Dennison Foundation ‘Spirit of Invention’ scholarship program to India,” said Alicia Procello Maddox, president of the Avery Dennison Foundation and senior director of community investment for Avery Dennison Corporation. “The program seeks to inspire creative, inventive students to become significant contributors to the economic well-being of their communities.”
The award ceremony took place today at the Movenpick Hotel & Spa in Bangalore, India and was presided over by Rishi Pardal, vice president and managing director, South Asia of Avery Dennison’s Retail Branding and Information Solutions business, and a team of local Avery Dennison leaders. The ceremony was immediately followed by a visit to the Avery Dennison Knowledge Centre in Bangalore, where the scholarship recipients were immersed in the innovation process while interacting with Avery Dennison leaders and staff to sharpen their inventive and entrepreneurial skills.
“India is an increasingly important market and a source of highly-educated talent for Avery Dennison,” said Pardal. “As a major investor and employer in India, we want to help nurture this talent pool and encourage the spirit of innovation through key initiatives such as InvEnt, which we believe can contribute so much to India’s continued growth and development.”
