Join us in enjoying the beauty of fall and Indiana’s agrarian heritage by visiting the “Autumn Harvest” show in the Hilbert Conservatory from September 19 to November 9. The Conservatory will be transformed into an idealized country scene, complete with a covered bridge and a little barn with a weather vane!
Look for large, colorful leaves drifting in the air high up in the building. Take a stroll through an old barn, where you will learn why leaves change colors, Indiana farming facts, what to do with the leaves you rake up, and why we even rake leaves at all! You’ll also see ornamental versions of familiar vegetable plants like corn, sweet potatoes and squash, and an old-time hand pump pouring water into a mini “swimmin’ hole.”
Look for “Tiger Cub” corn, “Big Moon” pumpkin and several different ornamental squash varieties. Also, look for a sampling of antique gardening tools; pieces that Hoosiers of our past may have used to help cultivate their own gardens. Of course, what would a fall scene be without pumpkins and colorful mums!? Look for these fall staples as well. And don’t be surprised if “Oscar the Owl” or “Chillie the Cat” peeks out at you from somewhere above your head in this festival of fall! This show is included with regular Zoo admission.
