A DANCE PERFORMANCE BY NAOMI GOLDBERG HAAS / DANCES FOR A VARIABLE POPULATION

A CELEBRATION OF COMMUNITY, DANCE, AND AUTUMN IN NEW YORK CITY

Come to the High Line and enjoy an of open-air dance performance by Naomi Goldberg Haas, Dances For A Variable Population, and senior citizens from the Hudson Guild at 6:00 PM on Wednesday, September 29; Thursday, September 30; Friday, October 1; and at 2:00 PM on Saturday, October 2, 2010.

Naomi Goldberg Haas is a dance artist who choreographs performances with diverse communities and professional dancers. For the High Line, she has created a performance entitled Autumn Crossing, which celebrates community, the joy of dance, the arrival of fall in New York City. The performance features rich, colloquial movements that seek to erase the traditional boundaries between dancers and non-dancers by mixing senior citizens and young adults or professionals. The performance explores how these disparate groups can learn from one another about the nature of movement and expression.

Haas will perform Autumn Crossing with her dance company, Dances For A Variable Population, and senior citizens from Hudson Guild, a multi-service agency that provides a broad range of programs and services to seniors and other residents of the Chelsea community

The performance will be set to contemporary Polish folk music by the Warsaw Village Band.

The event is free and for people of all ages. No RSVP required.

This performance is presented by Friends of the High Line as part of a series of free and low-cost public programs for people of all ages. It is made possible in part with public funds from the Manhattan Community Arts Fund, supported by the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, and the Fund for Creative Communities, supported by the New York State Council on the Arts, a state agency, and administered by the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council.
