From his battle reports to family notes, George Washington wrote about 140,000 letters in the seven years of the American War for Independence. Edward Lengel, associate editor of The Papers of George Washington, selected the most important and meaningful ones for his new book, This Glorious Struggle. (Collins, 2008) Lengel will be discussing those letters, and his insights into the man at the center of those perilous times during his visit to the Williamsburg Library Theatre, 515 Scotland Street, on Wednesday, April 30 at 7 p.m. The program is free and reservations are not needed.
