Join author and culinary historian, Michael Twitty for an informative lecture on the culture of enslaved African Americans. The lecture will highlight historic crops, open-hearth cooking, and the wild resources and heritage breed livestock African Americans gathered and prepared as they set about creating new African American cultures through food. After the lecture, join Tudor Place staff for a tour of Tudor Place’s garden and service spaces and learn about the individuals, both enslaved and free who lived and worked at Tudor Place. For an additional fee, enjoy lunch in the gardens of Tudor Place and an afternoon tour of Dumbarton House’s newly installed dining exhibit, Fran, Have You Supplied the Table? Foods, Service & Etiquette in the Federal Era.
