Hayward authors Reina Murray and Sylvester I. Okoro will be speaking about Reina Murray’s new memoir, Birds without Wings (Tate Publishing & Enterprises).
Murray and Okoro collaborated on Murray’s memoir, which tells the story of Murray’s tumultuous childhood. The authors introduce Reina as an eleven-year-old girl. Along with her three siblings, she is propelled into a world of abuse. The children are imprisoned by their stepmother’s demons, tortured by fear, and held hostage for years by their mother’s vulnerabilities and their father’s harmful love.
Reina Murray is the CEO of Vizions Hair Salon and Day Spa in Hayward. She studied business administration at Laney College. Birds without Wings is her first book. Murray is a successful playwright and is co-producing “Cover Up,” a short film about the AIDS epidemic.
Born and raised in Nigeria, Okoro received an MBA in Finance, Leadership & Management from Holy Names University in Oakland. His articles have appeared in many publications including the Pioneer, the Daily Californian, the Berkeley Daily Planet, and the Daily Times of Nigeria. He is presently a bank manager at US Bank.
