Andreas Widmer, author, member of the elite Swiss Guard to Blessed John Paul II, Co-Founder of SEVEN (Social Equity Venture Fund) and Director of Entrepreneurship Programs at Catholic University of America, will be Catholics@Work's featured speaker November, 13th. In his talk, "Christ as aVC, Each of Us as Startups," Andreas will share his relationship with Blessed John Paul II and the impact this had on his life and his spiritual journey.
This journey started when an impressionable young man joined the prestigious Swiss Guard because it was cool. He met the Pope and this relationship changed him and this thinking. He met his future wife in Rome, followed her to the United States, enrolled as a student and entered the world of technology start-ups. He rose to executive roles at some of the most innovative technology and top business strategy-consulting firms. During this time he lost focus on what he learned from John Paul and after achieving secular business success he was struck by a sense of emptiness- "is that all there is?" This reignited the lessons learned years earlier and Andreas shifted gears to integrate Christian values into the very essence of business and strategic planning. "Values" he says, "are not an add-on to business but the very life of a business. They are the capital that Christ gives an entrepreneur to leverage in defining how they will act as a responsible business person and representative of Christ in the workplace."
