Austin Collins & The Rainbirds
Raised in Houston, Austin Collins moved to Austin and started his college career at the University of Texas to study finance. He began writing songs in his freshman year and became convinced that songwriting was his talent. He left his job as a financial analyst after Sept. 11, 2001, and immediately began performing original songs. Collins quickly got hooked up with a producer and recorded his first album, “Something Better,” in a single week in Nashville. His recent album, “Roses are Black,” is at the heart of true gothic Americana. The songs are a beautiful balance of the poorly-labeled alt. country, a tinge of what the Eagles would call rock, emotional confessions and the truth. Once you hear Collins’ voice stretch in songs like, “Bridge Street Lullaby,” you’ll pine for it with the need of a lover left behind. Get to the heart of things Wednesday at The Hummingbird.
