Austin Art Mercado

7:00 PM 'til late
810 East 13th Street
The Austin Art Mercado, conceived by me and my friend Dustin Walker and inspired by Máximo González's Changarrito and San Antonio's Market Square, is an experimental attempt to create a new kind of art institution - an anarchic open market (with live music and beer) where artists and collectors can connect directly. The goals are to make art more affordable, to encourage more people to collect art, and to give artists an alternative way to make money from their work.
The first Mercado takes place Saturday, June 21, starting at 7:00 PM, at 810 E. 13th St. Bands scheduled to perform include Sunset and NBD. All artists are encouraged to come and show/sell their stuff; there is also space available in this historic-landmark house for all kinds of installations - email me (sam@samsanford.com or mercado810e13th@gmail.com) if you're interested.
