The Young People’s Chorus of Erie will audition potential new members during the last week of August and first week of September.
Auditions will be held at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, between Sunday, Aug. 28, and Saturday, Sept. 3. Each singer will be asked to perform a song of his or her choice without accompaniment and repeat basic musical patterns. Potential choristers and their parents also will briefly interview with YPC Erie staff.
YPC Erie membership is open to all youth ages 7-18 who demonstrate the ability to match pitch and have a genuine interest in singing. An outreach organization of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at Penn State Behrend, YPC Erie is the first affiliate program of the famed Young People’s Chorus of New York City.
Currently, 100 youth sing in YPC Erie’s four choirs—Cantare for the youngest singers, Concert Chorus for girls and boys with unchanged voices, Chorale for older singers, and Young Men. Dr. Jason Bishop, YPC artistic director, said that the 2011-12 season will include performances at Chautauqua Institution and with the Erie Philharmonic, a tour of schools, a holiday concert, and a YPC Erie-hosted Honor Chorus Festival. The highlight of the year will be YPC Erie’s participation in the 2012 World Choir Games competition to be held in July in Cincinnati, Ohio.
YPC Erie holds auditions only twice a year; the next opportunity to join will be in January 2012.
Audition appointments can be made by calling the YPC Erie administrative office at 814-898-6789 or by emailing info@ypcerie.org. For more information about YPC Erie, visit ypcerie.org.
