Safety Not Guaranteed, the award-winning new film that stars Delaware’s own Aubrey Plaza opened to rave reviews. The latest movie for this rising star (NBC’s Parks and Recreation, Funny People, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World) will debut for eager Delaware audiences on Sunday, July 22 at The Grand, 818 N. Market St., Wilmington.
Festivities will include red carpet arrivals at 7:30 p.m. and a screening of the film at 8 p.m. Afterward, Plaza will host a question and answer session with the audience. Tickets are $20 for reserved seating. They can be purchased at ticketsatthegrand.org. or by calling (800) 37-GRAND. For those who want to enjoy refreshments and spend time rubbing elbows and chatting with Aubrey and her family, a V.I.P. reception will be held from 6:30-7:30. The V.I.P. tickets are $125 and include preferred seating for the screening.
Proceeds for the premiere will benefit the Wilmington Drama League, where Plaza first discovered her love of acting and the place she describes as her “second home” growing up. The Drama League, on Lea Boulevard in Wilmington, has a vibrant children’s wing that each season gives hundreds of area young people the opportunity to test and hone their acting skills through large- and small-scale productions. It was at the Wilmington Drama League that Aubrey began her stage career, so she has named the organization as beneficiary of the premiere to show her appreciation and support of its mission.
Safety Not Guaranteed has been described as small movie with a big heart; Peter Travers of Rolling Stone remarked, “Sometimes a movie comes out of nowhere and wins you over. Safety Not Guaranteed is that kind of unexpected gift.” Regarding Plaza’s performance he stated, “Plaza is a flat-out enchantress.”
