On Saturday, June 11, 2011, the Oklahoma City Chapter of Americans United for Separation of Church & State will host its annual Spring Dialogue.
The event will begin at 9:30am in the State Senate Chamber, Oklahoma State Capitol, NE 23rd and Lincoln and will conclude at 11:30am. This event is free and open to the public.
Interested citizens who support or want to know more about the importance of the First Amendment and the wall of separation between religious dogma and civil laws are encouraged to attend. A question and answer period will be held.
The program will include three community leaders who will discuss important aspects of First Amendment issues commonly making headlines in the daily news.
Oklahoma State Representative Al McAffrey, HD 88, will discuss religious separation issues from a legislative point-of-view.
Professor Martha Skeeter from the University of Oklahoma Department of Women's and Gender Studies will look at the religious roadblocks created to interfere with women's health freedoms.
Scott Hamilton, Executive Director of Cimarron Alliance, a leadership organization working in the social justice arena and for the Oklahoma’s GLBT community. will discuss the need for recognition of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender civil rights..
Please note that access to the Senate Chamber will be through the west security entrance of the State Capitol. Ample free parking and handicapped facilities are available.
