The Atlanta Balalaika Society will present a Gala 30th Anniversary Concert of Russian folk music, song and dance on Saturday, September 24, 2011 at 7:30pm at the Roswell Cultural Arts Center, 950 Forrest St., Roswell, GA 30075. Tickets may be purchased in advance by calling (404) 325-2449 or in the lobby one hour prior to the performance. Adult tickets are $20, students and seniors $18, payable by check or cash.
The concert will feature the internationally acclaimed Russian ensemble, Barynya, performing Russian, Cossack, Gypsy and Jewish folk dances, songs and music, with special performances by balalaika virtuoso Elina Karokhina and Gypsy singer Sasha Menshikov. The Atlanta Balalaika Society Orchestra will feature domra virtuoso Angelina Galashenkova-Reed and bayan soloist Alla Melnik. The evening’s concert will be conducted by David C. Cooper.
The Atlanta Balalaika Society is one of the largest orchestras of Russian folk instruments outside of Russia, and is the primary promoter of Russian folk culture in the Southeast. Colorfully dressed in traditional folk costumes, the orchestra performs on balalaikas, domras, and bayans (Russian button accordions), along with other ancient wind and percussion instruments.
The Atlanta Balalaika Society is a non-profit 501(c)(3) community orchestra dedicated to the performance and preservation of Russian and Eastern European folk music in the Southeast and in the United States.
