This is a celebratory year for Art in Action, the award-winning educational organization that brings the joy of art to the classroom. The 5th annual Atelier d'Artistes will celebrate the 30th anniversary of Art in Action on Monday, March 4, 2013, at the Sharon Heights Golf and Country Club in Menlo Park. A keynote speech will be given by Craig Watson, Director of the California Arts Council, who will share his vision of how the arts spark creativity in all of us and his goal to make art available to every Californian.
This exciting event will honor Art in Action's founder, Judy Sleeth, who helped bring the program to life 30 years ago and will also introduce the new Executive Director of the organization, Jeffrey Dollinger. Carolyn Johnson of ABC7 News, and an Art in Action docent, will be master of ceremonies. Student artists from Willow Oaks Elementary School in Menlo Park will share their art and experiences with Art in Action curriculum and a silent auction will feature unique products and services, exclusive private art tours, and original artwork by local artists.
This event will help the nonprofit Art in Action raise funds to bring quality arts education to more students; engage teachers, parents and volunteers; provide more in-person and online training and resources; and support a scholarship program for schools with limited funding. The Art in Action curriculum is consistently praised for empowering teachers and parents to teach art utilizing time-tested lessons that enhance student creativity and innovative thinking while appealing to different learning styles. The curriculum is aligned with national and state academic standards and integrates with language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies. This year the program will impact nearly 40,000 students in over 200 schools.
