Canadian choreographer Aszure Barton plumbs the human psyche in Busk, a work that explores the visual architecture of movement, color, and sound. The performance features live music by the critically acclaimed Lev Ljova Zhurbin and The Kontraband. Barton was born and raised in Canada and started tap dancing at the age of three. She received her formal training at the National Ballet School in Toronto, where, as a student, she helped originate the ongoing Stephen Godfrey Choreographic Showcase. She has created works for Mikhail Baryshnikov, Hell’s Kitchen Dance, The National Ballet of Canada, Nederlands Dans Theater, American Ballet Theatre, Les Ballets Jazz de Montréal, Sydney Dance Company, the Juilliard School, Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, and the Martha Graham Dance Company, among others. “[Barton’s dancers are] like bold splashes of paint…they shimmer and resonate like stringed instruments, sing in overtones, and emote in a multitude of tongues” (Dance Magazine).
