With groundbreaking new programming and an eye for innovation, the Asian American International Film Festival ’08 will open on Thursday, July 10 with the East Coast debut of PRINCESS OF NEBRASKA, from acclaimed director Wayne Wang. The Centerpiece Presentation will be on Thursday, July 17 with the U.S. premiere of THE SPEED OF LIFE by director Ed Radtke. The Festival will close on Saturday, July 19 with PING PONG PLAYA from Academy-Award-winning director Jessica Yu.
AAIFF's 2008 line-up will also include nine additional Narrative Feature films: ALWAYS BE BOYZ, THE DRUMMER, FLOWER IN THE POCKET, GONE SHOPPING, HALF-LIFE, KISSING COUSINS, OPTION 3, PRETTY TO THINK SO, and SLINGSHOT; and nine Documentary Feature films: AGAINST THE GRAIN: AN ARTIST'S SURVIVAL GUIDE TO PERÚ, BEYOND FEAR, WOMEN OF TIBET: A QUIET REVOLUTION, GRANDMOTHER'S FLOWER, THE KILLING OF A CHINESE COOKIE, LONG STORY SHORT, MEGUMI, WINGS OF DEFEAT, and WINGS OF DEFEAT: ANOTHER JOURNEY.
The Short Film line-up includes films from nine thought-provoking themes: CAMUS ANYONE?, COLLISION THEORY, EXPERIENCE LEVEL UP, FIST OF LOVE, I heart WKW, LOOKING GLASS, NEITHER VICE NOR VIRTUE, STATE OF FLUX, and ZONING CONFLICTS.
AAIFF also presents New Landscapes: Media and Its Adaptations, an inaugural series of interactive panel discussions on cultural topics relevant to Asian/Asian American communities. This new endeavor will engage artists, intellectuals, filmmakers, and other commentators in a timely dialogue on media, culture, and politics.
Special Programs and Workshops further delivers a range of programs geared to educate and promote various media outlets for the Asian American arts, including: Screenplay Reading, 20 & Under Program: For Youth By Youth, 72 Hour Shootout, and Work in Progress.
