New York-based ASEFA—meaning "collecting" in Hebrew—brings together North African grooves, Sefardic sounds, and American jazz in high-energy arrangements that incorporate improvisation and unusual instrumentation. Founded in 2001 by bandleader and composer Samuel Thomas, ASEFA features Shanir Blumenkranz on oud and bass and Eric Platz on drums and percussion.
