Spectacular Fireworks & Free Family Fun on July 4

The United States is the only country with a known birthday. ~ James G. Blaine

Live music and fireworks highlight the city of Arvada’s two day celebration of the spirit of America. The holiday weekend begins Friday, July 3, with an evening concert of stirring patriotic classical music presented under the stars at the Arvada Center for the Performing Arts and continues on July 4 at the sports complex with a day of live and recorded rock music, family activities, food and spectacular twilight fireworks.

On Friday night at 7:30 p.m., in their Arvada Center debut, Music Director Michael Butterman and the Boulder Philharmonic Musicians present From Sea to Shinning Sea, a stirring program of patriotic classics that highlight our nation’s regional diversity. Selections include Aaron Copeland’s Rodeo: Hoedown and Variations on a Shaker Melody, Leroy Anderson’s Horse and Buggy, plus Stars and Strips Forever, American Salute, Armed Forces Salute and more – including Rossini’s immortal William Tell Overture. The Arvada Center is located at 6901 Wadsworth. Ticket prices: Kids are only $1 and Adult tickets start at $10.

On Saturday, July 4, the festivities continue at 3:00 p.m. at the Lutz/Stengler Sports Complex as the Arvada Festivals Commission, the City of Arvada, KOOL 105 Radio and Apex Park and Recreation District partner to bring you a day of free family fun to celebrate our Nation’s Birthday featuring “Hot Times, Kool Cars” classic car show, a military display, live music, family entertainment, kid’s amusements, great food and a spectacular Fourth of July fireworks display. The complex is located at 58th and Ralston Road in Arvada.

“Arvada’s fireworks show is over thirty years old,” event coordinator Nancy Bentzen says. “First and foremost, we provide a free fun family event and a safe way to view fireworks and celebrate our nation’s Independence Day. Many hours are spent planning and producing the celebration and about 150 workers, including paid staff and volunteers, give up their holiday to spend over 1200 person hours creating fun for our guests.”

Kool 105 starts the party at 3:00 p.m. with live bands and recorded music, your favorite DJs and rock hits from the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s. The music sets the mood for free family-friendly activities throughout the afternoon and evening including:

• Kid’s Park featuring inflatables (an obstacle course, the worm, and big slide), temporary face tattoos, an interactive electronics game, and more fun activities.
• Classic Car Show by Kool 105.
• The Arvada Police Department’s “safety bug” Jessica on display.
• Child DNA kits offered by Arvada Citizen’s Police Academy Alumni.
• The new inflatable fire safety house from the Arvada Fire Protection District
• The Marine military display.
• Community booths and patriotic items for sale.
• Food and drinks concession stands.

At 9:00 p.m., as the fireworks begin, KOOL 105 Radio will simulcast a collection of great oldies music as Stonebrakers Fireworks provides one of the biggest and best fireworks displays in the metro area.
