Coming in September, Richmond Redux
During September/October all of our shows share Richmond as the common connecting thread. First, Richmond artist, Michael Pierce, who graduated from VCU School of the Arts in 1972, is curating an exhibition entitled "STILL Here" in the Main gallery. The show will include art work created by a select group of fellow artists at VCU who continue their art practice. They will each show work created 40 years ago alongside recent work.
In a companion show in the hallways and Project Space at Plant Zero other former VCU students will be exhibiting artwork created circa 1968 - 1972; this show is curated by Jillian DiMarco under the supervision of Michael and is called "WAS There." And in smallspace gallery, VCU arts students from 40 years ago who are no longer with us will be memorialized in an installation entitled "Gone."
Not to be overlooked, in the Frable gallery Michael’s friend and local photographer, Anne Savedge’s exhibit "Seasons and Gardens" will consist of scanned images of plants and flowers from Richmond gardens. And in the Helena Davis gallery, artspace artist member, Lisa Levine will be showing "Richmond Folk Festival - My View" consisting of her documentary drawings and paintings of past Richmond Folk Festivals.
The Suzanne Foley gallery’s group show will consist of Richmond themed artwork entitled "From Here, RVA-USA."
