An all-star cast, including F. Murray Abraham, Francois Battiste, Marylouise Burke, Adam Driver, Jake Gyllenhaal, Frances McDormand, Michael Shannon, David Strathairn, Tracie Thoms, Joanne Tucker, and musical guest, Michael Daves will perform a free set of monologues and a music performance for active duty servicemen and women and their families as part of “Arts in the Armed Forces” on Sunday, November 11th at 8pm at The Lucille Lortel Theatre, 121 Christopher Street (Between Bleecker and Bedford), Greenwich Village.
Arts in the Armed Forces (AITAF) is a cornerstone event for Veterans Week NYC 2012, being held for the first time this year November 7-14, as a way to celebrate, thank and honor our nation’s veterans and active duty military personnel. Now organized under one comprehensive banner, Veterans Week NYC also includes seminars, forums, concerts, tours, screenings, symposiums and special benefit galas for the public and the veterans community. Generous support for Veterans Week NYC has been provided by presenting sponsor General Electric, and Founding Sponsors Citi, Google, Veterans Advantage and the USO. For a full list of events, visit www.veteransweeknyc.org.
AITAF seeks to bridge the gap between the military and the performing arts communities through a series of free performances including monologues, scenes, staged readings and music. AITAF is interested in erasing the distinctions between what makes one person a soldier and another an artist by exposing two seemingly different communities to the same stories in the hopes that their individual responses will lead to inspired dialogue.
Admission for veterans and their families is free. Civilian tickets available for $50, pending availability. All proceeds will go to AITAF. For reservations email: artsinthearmedforces@gmail.com.
DATE: Sunday, November 11th
