Carmel Arts and Design District Revs its Engine with Artomobilia
Outdoor festival includes collector car show, entertainment
CARMEL, Ind. – On Saturday, Sept. 12, more than 100 collectible cars spanning a century will gather in the Carmel Arts and Design District for the second-annual Artomobilia. From noon to 6 p.m., art aficionados and vintage car lovers alike can enjoy food, shopping and entertainment while celebrating the beauty and time-honored legacy of the automobile.

Showcasing classic American muscle of the 60s and 70s, as well as exotic imports and rare collectibles from every decade, Artomobilia is a salute to the best of automotive design on wheels and on canvas. During the event’s second-annual free car show, Lamborghinis, Aston Martins and Ferraris will line Main Street alongside Bentleys, Lotuses and DeSotos. Concours-style judging will spotlight cars deemed Best in Class in 16 categories ranging from historically preserved classics to racers. A special award will honor the vehicle voted Best in Show.
The 2009 Artomobilia will spotlight the Hudson – the marque selected in honor of the vehicle’s 100th anniversary. The Hudson will be showcased alongside the prized collections of car enthusiasts throughout the Midwest, including many notable names from Indiana’s automotive heritage, such as Auburn, Stutz and Studebaker.
“Cars are so important to the history of our state,” said Roger Brummet, event chair. “Artomobilia allows us to give a nod to Indiana’s roots in racing and vehicle design by showing beautiful collectible cars next to beautiful collectible art. Many car lovers are also art lovers – they’re both things of beauty.”
In addition to the signature car show, many of the Arts and Design District merchants and eateries also plan sales and promotions to cater to attendees of the outdoor festival.
Artomobilia is the debut event planned for “Carmel Arts Month” – the City of Carmel’s official month celebration of its vibrant and growing performing and visual arts community. Other events on the “Carmel Arts Month” calendar include Dog Day Afternoon on Sept. 13, a Gallery Walk on Sept. 19 and the Carmel International Arts Festival held Sept. 26-27.
