Acclaimed Spanish fashion designer, David Delfín, in conversation with Veronica Guadalupe, Luna Negra’s rehearsal director. They will discuss fashion, design and his costumes for Luna Negra’s CARMEN.maquia. Hear how he worked with the artistic and set directors to present the classic story of Carmen in a contemporary setting, learn about the creative process of building a new work from idea to fully staged performance, and engage with the artists in a moderated Q & A.
David Delfín came to fashion through painting. In 1999, after several individual and collective exhibitions, and having worked on paper, canvas, wood or cardboard, Delfín decided to use military clothes second hand as new support. Shirts, pants, underwear, shoes, belts... there was a memory, a fingerprint... names of the people that inhabited them, grease stains, stitching. This personal typography has become a recognizable mark of his designs.
In 2001, the Davidelfín brand was created by Bimba Bosé, Deborah Postigo, Gorka Postigo, Diego Postigo and Delfín. It all started as a plural medium to express universal needs, involving fashion, photography, architecture and video. Since September 2002, David Delfín has presented collections in Cibeles Madrid Fashion week, and since February 2009 in the New York Fashion week. Emotions remain the motor of his work.
