On the third Wednesday of every other month at the Artist SPEAKeasy, Fresh Arts hosts artists from varying disciplines to present creative presentations about their work in an informal environment. Dialogue is encouraged so the audience can glean further insight into the artist, the artist's aesthetic and creative process. The evening is designed not only to bring together artists and those who appreciate the arts, but also to introduce local artists to each other to encourage conversation and cross-disciplinary collaboration between artists and their chosen media.
Drinks and nosh are served at 6:30; formal talks are underway at 7:00. Guests are invited to come and go as necessary.
October's Fresh Arts Artist SPEAKeasy features visual artists Regina Agu and Adela Andea.
About Regina Agu:
Regina Agu is a self-taught visual artist living and working in Houston, TX. She was born in Houston and was raised moving frequently throughout Africa and Europe, leaving the U.S. at a young age. She is a graduate of Cornell University, with a Bachelors of Science in Policy Analysis and Management. Agu found a creative home in Houston upon her return, and transitioned to actively producing and exhibiting new visual and written works.
Her work has been included in group exhibitions and readings at New Museum (NY), Textile Arts Center (NY), TSU Museum (TX), Mountain View College (TX), labotanica (TX), and Project Row Houses (TX), among other venues. She is a 2012 Houston Arts Alliance Grantee. In 2011, she was an Artist-in-Residence at Atlantic Center for the Arts (FL), and was a participant in the DW(2) Development Workshops at Diverseworks. About Adela Andea:
Romanian-born, Texas-based artist Adela Andea creates complex light sculptures and installations that explore the fine line between reality and virtual reality. Swarms of LED and CCL lights along with pulsing electrical components are intricately woven together, forming technological landscapes that hypnotize and engulf the viewer; reflecting sociopolitical themes of over-globalization. Andea’s work has been featured throughout Texas, including solo exhibits at Lawndale Art Center, Cora Stafford Gallery, Chris Worley Fine Arts, Anya Tish Galery and Skydive Art Space.
Her current installation Primordial Garden can be seen in Art League Houston's Outdoor Sculpture Garden.
