Learn about contemporary art and artists at the Branigan Cultural Center through a free preview screening of the Protest episode of the award-winning PBS series art:21 on Saturday, Oct. 6, from 10 a.m. noon at the Branigan Cultural Center.
Protest is one of four themes the art:21 series will explore this season. Its concern is how contemporary art engages politics, inequality and conflicts facing todays world. Artists featured in this video segment are Jenny Holzer, Alfredo Jaar, An-My Le, and Nancy Spero. Guest Artist Margie Weir will share insights and lead a discussion after the screening. Weirs interactive sculpture was included in the Life and Liberty After 911, the National Juried Exhibition at the Las Cruces Museum of Art in the fall of 2006.
The art:21 2007 premiere is Sunday, Oct. 28 on PBS. Other programs will air on Nov. 4, 11, and 18 on the themes of Romance, Protest, Ecology and Paradox. Check local listings for broadcast channels and times or visit the website www.pbs.org/art21.
The Branigan Cultural Center is located at the north end of the downtown mall. Parking is accessible from the intersection of Water and Hadley streets. For information, call 505-541-2155.
