Art Works 4th Friday Art Shows and Opening Reception! May 28, 2010

In May and June of each year Art Works proudly partners with the high school art programs in Greater Richmond. This year not only will Henrico High School and Maggie L. Walker Governor’s School exhibit but we’ve added the Goochland High School Arts Program to the agenda. You will be impressed by the quality, depth and breadth of these exhibits. The work is the result of four years of study and ranges from paintings, sculptures, and installations to fashion.

The three schools share the gallery space by exhibiting on different dates. May 28th – June 8th Henrico High artwork is displayed in the Jane Sandelin Gallery and Goochland High artwork is exhibited in the Skylight Gallery with an opening reception. Then on June 11th, the Maggie L. Walker exhibit opens in the Jane Sandelin Gallery with a reception and this exhibit remains on display through June 20th.

Four other exhibits will open on May 28th with a reception and will continue through June 20, 2010:

· THE VIEW FROM HERE by Beth Bradford
· GIFTS FROM THE SEA by Emma Lou Martin
· MAY ALL MEDIA SHOW – this is a juried show with cash prizes and awards. The juror is Colin Ferguson

So join us on these two openings May 28TH 7- 10 pm and again on June 11th from 6 – 9 pm. Free and open to the public



MAY 2010 ALL MEDIA SHOW
This exhibit features contemporary artists from Richmond and Virginia. Colin Ferguson is the juror of this exhibit, will give a gallery talk at 7:30 p.m. on opening night. Submissions are accepted from any artist and any medium.

POST PROGRESSIONS
Roger McClung and Doug Kinnett studied art together in college and took every course possible from painting to ceramics, printmaking to sculpture. After college their careers and families took then to different parts of the country. However they remained in contact and close friends. They are now collaborating in this exhibit in the Corner Gallery and Studio 100 with a progression of their work –as it has developed over the years.


THE VIEW FROM HERE
Beth Bradford is a writer, teacher and painter. She is presenting a new body of artwork in the Centre Gallery East.

GIFTS FORM THE SEA
Emma Lou Martin is active in the art community in Richmond and she has received many awards, coordinates and executes workshops, is a museum docent and was a moving force in establishing the Uptown Gallery as its founding director in 1992. She is passionate about the arts, and her great joy is passing that on to others. Her mediums are many and varied from watercolor to collage and more. Her exhibit at Art Works is in the Centre Gallery West
