In his first solo show, photographer Michael Crawford presents ?Textures of Man & Nature,? a 30+ piece collection of artwork emphasizing light and shadow across natural and man-made textures. The exhibition opens at Mill Valley Community Center, 180 Camino Alto, on March 7th with a hosted reception from 6-8 p.m. The show is part of Art Walk, sponsored by the Mill Valley Art Commission.
Drawn to strong patterns, Crawford shoots inanimate subjects with lighting from sharp angles, coaxing depth, texture and rich color from every image. One aspect of the exhibition focuses on nature while another on architectural elements and shadows captured at decisive moments. ?I stalk shadows. I?ve always been amazed at how varied they are, how fast they move and how much they change from day-to-day,? says Crawford.
The show runs through March 28 and can be viewed during the Community Center?s normal operating hours. Items sold during the show generate a significant donation to the Marin Academy student scholarship fund.
