Art on the Trail is the only exhibition of its kinds, allowing artists the opportunity to propose and install sculptural creations in a rare and beautiful natural setting. Featuring original contemporary art from 23 diverse artists displayed in Baltimore’s largest woodland park along the Gwynns Falls Trail, artwork includes tethered mirrors reflecting light off stream and trees covered with papier-mâché. Sponsored by Mayor Dixon’s Office of Promotion & the Arts and the Maryland State Arts Council, and in partnership with the Baltimore City Department of Recreation and Parks, the exhibition is open to the public and continues throughout the summer until September 2.
Art on the Trail kicks off with a special opening day celebration on June 2 from 1 pm – 4 pm at Trailhead 2, Winans Meadow. The opening day event will feature live performances, guided tours of the art on display, and arts and crafts activities for people of all ages.
In addition, the Great Gwynns Falls Trail Hunt will be launched, a free contest that encourages visitors to the Trail to participate in a historical “scavenger” hunt with the chance to win special prizes.
