Art of Beer Gallery Walk Offers International Tour of Carmel Arts & Design District October 16, 2009

CARMEL, Ind. — On Friday, Oct. 16, the Carmel Arts & Design District presents its debut Art of Beer Gallery Walk, a unique evening that allows District galleries and restaurants to tempt guests with the perfect pairing of art exhibits and beer tastings.

During this special Gallery Walk, each location will celebrate a distinct international beer-making region. From 5 to 10 p.m., guests can sample international brews, peruse fine art from around the world and collect stamps on their “passports” by visiting each participating Art of Beer Gallery Walk location. Attendees can turn their full passports in to any gallery for a chance to win one of three $100 gift cards redeemable at any participating District business.
Art of Beer Gallery Walk patrons can then follow up their tasting tour with a visit to any of the District’s restaurants or bars for a pint of their favorite selection.
Magdalena Gallery of Art will partner with Woodys Library Restaurant to showcase German beer. Guests can try Weihenstephaner Hefeweizen while enjoying “The Articulation of Movement,” a presentation of works by figurative artist Magdalena Hoyos-Segovia and abstract artist Thomas H. Towhey.
Soori Gallery will featured international sculptors, including Michael Wilkinson, Frederick Hart, Jerry Joslin, Erte, Martin Eichinger, Italian-Baroque style master Angelo Basso, Russian artist Misha Frid and Vietnamese artist Tuan. Bazbeaux Pizza will join Soori Gallery to treat guests to tastings of Samuel Smith’s The Famous Taddy Porter. Bazbeaux will also feature St. Peter’s Organic Ale in its celebration of English beer.
Traditional American beer takes center stage at Art & Soul Gallery, although its current exhibit features works by international artist Hamilton Aguiar. The gallery partners with Old Town Tavern, where specialty beers available for sampling include Anchor Steam, Blue Moon, Samuel Adams Octoberfest and Upland.
Evan Lurie Gallery will continue its showing of “Memoirs from Suburbia,” a collection of work from Peter Drake, Michael Fitts, Tom Haney and Drew Simpson. For Art of Beer, the gallery will team with La Mie Emilie to share beers from Belgium with tastings of Chimay Red and Lindemans Framboise. Guests that want to explore Belgian beer in greater depth can visit La Mie Emilie for Lindemans Framboise, Stella Artois and Chimay – and 10 percent off dessert.

Art of Beer visitors in the mood for something sweeter will enjoy Blue Egg Gallery’s complimentary root beer floats. New artist Lidia Stecher will greet guests during the exhibition, which features her abstract paintings alongside the work of Pamela Couch, a specialist in the use of light in her paintings.
Many other exhibits can be viewed during the Gallery Walk. In addition to the District’s permanent streetscape gallery, which features 11 distinctive community statues by American sculptor J. Seward Johnson, other special displays are planned. In the rotating exhibit space at 111 W. Main Street, Suite 130, Chris Griffin-Woods will exhibit with Dick and Dixie Ferrar, Ron Elkins and Kathleen Biale.
Many other District businesses plan special sales and promotions for Art of Beer Gallery Walk. Mudbugs Cajun Café will offer $10 beer buckets (five bottles per bucket), and guests may choose among four brews from Abita Beer: Fall Fest, Turbodog, Purple Haze and Amber. Bub’s Burger’s and Ice Cream will offer complimentary samples of Fat Tire Hoptober Golden Ale along with free promotional items. Gallery Walk patrons that visit Muldoon’s and purchase a pint of Killian’s will receive a free souvenir glass.
L'Evento Event Resource Boutique celebrates its grand opening, with a ribbon cutting at 3:30 p.m. followed by an open house at 4 p.m. Accent Details will offer complimentary "beer snacks" along with 20 percent off of guests’ total purchases. Simply Sweet Shoppe’s "Ice sCream 4 A Cause" will give guests a chance to help one of four causes with the purchase of a $4 Good’s Double Scoop Waffle Cone; $1 will go to the Multiple Sclerosis Society, Damar Twisters, Fresh Start of Indiana or the ADDBAC Scholarship Fund.
Parking is available at the Carmel Lions Club parking lot, the Indiana Design Center underground parking garage and other public parking areas, as well as on-street parking in the District.
