(Richmond, Va.) Art Karma, an annual fundraiser and "good karma" party to benefit ART 180, will take place on Thursday, December 3, 2009, from 7-10 p.m. at Plant Zero Art Center. Once again, this enchanting event will feature an extensive silent auction of art and crafts from local artists, tickets and gift certificates to local cultural events and restaurants, and other unique experiences and services. There are more than 200 items at all price levels to bid on!

While the karma theme suggests exotic, far-off places, this event champions our own amazing homegrown talent and community generosity. The Art Karma name represents the motivation of goodness and good will that artists, small business owners and the Richmond community convey through their contributions and willingness to celebrate and help ART 180 continue providing after-school programs.

This special auction has always encouraged celebrating local talent for a good cause. Come out and listen to global music played by WRIR DJ's Carlito and GrayBeard, eat exotic appetizers, sample Virginia wines and Richbrau beer, and don't forget to try the one and only Karmatini made with locally produced Cirrus vodka. Staff from the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts Education & Statewide Partnerships department will be leading a children's art activity--contemporary collages--for free. And Joan Kovatch from Artisan Henna will be providing henna body art, also for free.

Tickets are available in advance for just $20 through the ART 180 website. Admission is $25 at the door, or $40/couple. Children are free. Plant Zero is located at Hull and 4th streets in Manchester, just across the river from downtown via the 14th Street Bridge. Parking is available in the large lighted lot between 4th and 5th streets..

Art Karma has become a signature Richmond event helping ART 180 to serve young people in challenging circumstances. Proceeds will go to fund ART 180's after-school programs in creative expression. Based in Richmond, ART 180 creates and provides art-related programs to young people in challenging circumstances, encouraging personal and community change through self-expression. Since 1998, the nonprofit group has worked with youth in the Richmond area to create art that explains and illustrates their feelings, thoughts and experiences.
