Lakewood Threads Artistic Talent Together
in
‘Re-Visioning Fiber’
“Re-Visioning Fiber,” featuring the combined talents of artists Nancy Koenigsberg, Jason Pollen, Nancy G. Cook and Regina V. Benson, runs September 9 – November 7 in the North Gallery and Mezzanine Gallery in the Lakewood Cultural Center, 470 S. Allison Parkway, and the Richey Gallery in Lakewood Civic Center South, 480 S. Allison Parkway.
Nancy Koenigsberg’s use of knotted, crocheted and woven metal wire, with its seeming weightlessness, explores the contradictions of apparent delicacy and strength. Jason Pollen’s sewn canvases of layered, dyed, printed and painted cloth reflect his own personal journey. Nancy G. Cook uses her painting talents and love of an exaggerated close-up view of botanical forms to encourage the viewer to see what is frequently overlooked in leaf, bud or seed.
This year in “Re-Visioning Fiber,” Guest Curator Regina V. Benson brings together artists that create varied works with mixed materials and mixed fiber techniques that fill the North Gallery, the James J. Richey Gallery and the Mezzanine Gallery
There will be a free artist reception from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, September 9, in the Lakewood Cultural Center and South Building and an Artists Talk at 10 a.m. on Saturday, September 10 and Saturday, October 15 in the Heritage Room of the Lakewood Cultural Center. All four artists will discuss their artistic journeys, sources of their inspirations, and their challenges of pursuing the artistic life. Artists will bring works in progress, images and collections of creative tools to allow attendees to personally touch and explore their materials. The artists will speak freely about the exhibited works in particular and about new directions they are contemplating for their art careers. This presentation is free to the public. Participants will have the opportunity to examine the exhibited work and hear the artists' visions. For additional information, contact the Lakewood Cultural Center at (303) 987-7876.
