Ansel Adams and Bob Kolbrener: Traveling Exhibition of Select Photographs from “Two Masters of the American West”

Ansel Adams’ images of Yosemite National Park and the Great American West taken from 1916 forward have inspired photographers to follow in his footsteps.

Bob Kolbrener’s visit to the Ansel Adams Gallery in 1968 was a turning point in the then young photographer’s career. Over the next ten years Kolbrener advanced from a student in 1969, to a recognized talent and teacher with Ansel Adams at his prestigious Yosemite workshops.

Today, Bob Kolbrener is known as the photographer of the American West and his work, like Adams, stands out above others. This disciplined artist spends over three months each year in the Yosemite area focusing his camera on the changing landscape, and the balance of his time printing beautiful works as limited edition gelatin silver prints. Kolbrener writes about his specialized oeuvre: I have always responded to the grand, ephemeral gestures of Nature. When there is a lightning, fog or winter storm, I am alive with emotion. Through the teachings and inspiration of Ansel Adams I have been able to direct this energy to the making of exciting photographs.

All three gallery rooms of Michele Mosko Fine Art will be devoted to exhibiting early vintage prints by Adams, dating as far back as 1929, as well as contemporary works by Kolbrener.

Bob Kolbrener’s photographs, like Adams’, are printed by the artists’ hand. The exhibition compares and contrasts the works of two visionary masters, their love and respect for Yosemite and surrounding areas.

This exciting exhibition offers the Denver community a rare opportunity to view and acquire collectible photographs by these two iconic legends. Signed photographs are for sale, priced from $400 to $30,000 and vary in scale from 8” x 10” vintage prints by Ansel Adams to monumental mural sized works measuring 50” x 60” by Bob Kolbrener.

Michele Mosko Fine Art is located at 136 West 12th Avenue in Denver. Gallery hours are 12-6pm Wednesday - Saturday.
