An Environmental Tale of Colonial Settlement in the Delaware Valley and the Toxic Legacy that Followed.
In June of 1983 an unlined wastewater lagoon at an arsenical pesticide manufacturing plant in New Jersey collapsed into the Maurice River killing all of the vegetation in the nearby cedar swamp, transporting tons of arsenic downstream. Thomas Belton, EPA scientist and author of Protecting New Jersey’s Environment will discuss the history of the area, the investigation, clean-up efforts and the long term impact on the environmental safety of the Delaware Valley.
