An exhibition of unique artefacts from the county’s armed forces tradition will be on display at the Orkney Museum from June 21 to July 4.
The display has been put together to help mark Armed Forces Day which will be celebrated all over Britain on June 26.
The display has been put together by Orkney Islands Council’s museums team with items on loan from the Territorial Army centre in Kirkwall and artefacts held by the Museum.
The exhibition includes six military uniforms dating from the Napoleonic Wars to the present – one with a bullet hole in the side. Uniforms on show include a Royal Company of Archers (the monarch’s bodyguards in Scotland) uniform, two Orkney Volunteer Artillery uniforms from the late 19th century - one standard and one bandsman – a World War Two Home Guard uniform, a tunic from the Napoleonic war and Brigadier S.P. Robertson’s formal mess uniform.
Other artefacts include trophies, a bugle, a highly ornate shield, drums, mace, small cannon and uniform decoration and medals.
Opening Times: Monday-Saturday 10.30-17.00 (closed 12.30-1.30 for lunch).
Admission: Free
